Game Over
Inflatable back-drop

Game Over is an inflatable square pillow with a colored grid. The grid is based on an optical illusion known as the Scintillating Grid. Most people will see black dots quickly appear and disappear at the intersections of the squares. If you focus on one dot, though, the effect does not occur.

Black light shining on the fluorescent dots strengthens this effect*.

(*) This effect occurs because of a process known as lateral inhibition. Photoreceptors in the eye have a give and take relationship; when some are working hard, the others take a break. This interchange happens quickly as the eyes are trying to take in the whole picture, the differences in contrast at the intersecting points cause you, quite literally, to see spots before your eyes.
